UI & UX development and branding for Books etc. an online book store

The online book store Books etc. has been going for quite some time and has built up a steady reputation for delivering all manor of books across the globe at very competitive prices. They aging online system was creaking under the pressure and the team were looking for a more robust solution. With that they got in touch with to help them design a much clearer interface for their new online store.

My work involved de-cluttering their store layout, working on strong UI & UX principles to design a platform that was much easier for the user to navigate around the site. We looked at all aspects of the design, from the front-end home page (designing desktop, iPad and mobile views) to the ordering & checkout procedure. I also created design templates for their team to use to design their own section banners, enabling them full control over the new website environment.

My work also involved dove-tailing with their web developers and providing grid structures, design guidelines and all the assets they needed to build the new website.

Book Club

Another branding project was to design their Book Club brand.

A simple design was created using the familiar quotation marks of their logotype and using them very large as the center piece focus for a range of small banner ads. I also wrote the fun and poignant headline copy that would appeal to book obsessives everywhere.

Mail Chimp templates

Lastly I designed a mobile friendly Mail Chimp template, which was loaded onto the templates section of their Mail Chimp dashboard. The design was very flexible with a number of layout options enabling his team to quickly build monthly newsletters themselves.

The designs were built with ‘responsive’ grids, so they re-shape and re-flow for mobile phones, rather than squashing down or half of the content being missed off the side.

The Mail Chimp email builder is quite intuitive, and this template I constructed for them has been ideal for their team to adopt and use.
